The strongest option in this guide for companies that already run on Salesforce, with agents that act and prices that are published but complex.

Agentforce is Salesforce's layer of AI agents for customer-facing and employee-facing work. Its agents act on the records a company keeps in Salesforce, and its pricing page sets out several ways to pay for them1.
Best for: Companies whose operations centre on a Salesforce CRM and that want customer- and employee-facing agents on those records.
Not the right fit for: Small companies without Salesforce that want predictable, flat pricing.
How Agentforce works
Salesforce Foundations includes the tools to build agents (Agentforce Builder, Prompt Builder and Agent Script) at no charge; running them costs money1. Customer-facing agents can be paid for per conversation. Customer- and employee-facing agents, voice and other features can be paid for with Flex Credits, drawn down by each action: 20 credits for a standard action and 30 for a voice action. Alternatively, per-user add-ons for Sales, Service and Field Service give staff unmetered use.
Salesforce describes a trust layer around its AI: retrieval that keeps permissions and data access controls in place, masking of sensitive data before a prompt reaches a model, real-time screening of generated content, and a policy that prompts and responses are not stored or used to train third-party models2.
Published evidence
The pages we read describe pricing and trust controls but contain no named customer result for Agentforce as a company's operating system.
Strengths and limits
Strengths
- Agents work directly on CRM records, with actions rather than only answers.
- Several published pricing models, from metered credits to unmetered per-user add-ons.
- Published trust controls: permission-aware retrieval, data masking and zero retention with third-party models.
Limits
- Costs depend on usage and on several overlapping licences, which makes budgeting harder.
- Unused Flex Credits do not roll over into later subscription terms.
- It extends a CRM; finance, operations and mail usually remain in other systems.
Choose another option if: You do not run Salesforce today, or you want one flat-priced system for the whole company rather than a CRM-centred one.
Pricing
Published: Flex Credits at $500 per 100,000; $2 per conversation; Agentforce add-ons at $125 per user a month; Agentforce User License at $5 per user a month plus credits.
Credits can be bought upfront, committed to without upfront payment, or paid as used; unused credits do not roll over into later terms, and credits and per-conversation pricing cannot be mixed in one org1.
Questions to ask Salesforce or a partner
- Which pricing model fits our expected volume, and what does a typical month cost at that volume?
- Which of our processes outside the CRM (finance, purchasing, mail) could agents reach, and how?
- How are agent actions approved and recorded?
